If We Would - 1918

If We Would

If to school we did not need
To go each single day,
But were allowed to stay at home
And spend the time in play,
If we could be neglectful
And our daily tasks delay
What a comfortable, happy,
Cheerful place this world would be!

If we noticed little pleasures
As we notice little pains,
If we quite forgot our losses
And remembered all our gains;
If we looked for people's virtues
And their faults refused to see,
What a happy, comfortable,
Cheerful place this world would be!
